Why?

I am not dieting for one whole year. On March 1, 2008 my social experiment began. This blog chronicles my experiences of not dieting. More importantly, it provides support to those who seek more information on not dieting.

Strip to Your Sportsbra!

Today I had my second Bikram yoga class and it was much better than yesterday. I made it through the first half without having to lie down...hooray! My class has a cornucopia of body types in various stages of undress. Right before the session began, I decided to take off my shirt and wear only my sportsbra (which I never do...ever). I think it made a big difference. There is a giant mirror in front of us so we can see the alignment of our bodies, or lack thereof. It was so hot in there and I was sweating so much that I didn't give a rat's ass if my tummy poked out during triangle pose. I felt like I was in a boot camp for body acceptance.

What do you all like to wear when you exercise? Do you bare more if you work out solo or if you're in a group?

When I'm swimming laps, I wear a lap suit. It's not sexy, it's supportive - it's not fashion, it's athletic equipment.

When I'm lifting weights, it's shorts and a tshirt. Nothing exciting - allows me the range of motion I need and to keep cool enough.

After reading about your yoga class, I think I'd strip down as much as possible too!

At home I always wear as little as possible, usually running shorts (not even those if I am doing leg lifts or other similar exercises that make shorts bunch up) and a sports bra. In public, though, I always put a tank on. I see people jogging around my city in only their sports bras, but I'm way too self-conscious for that.

I found your blog while you were off getting married; I have enjoyed reading it and I look forward to reading more.

I practice vinyasa yoga at a yoga studio and generally wear yoga pants (not tight ones) or cappri yoga pants and a tank top. I do get hot and sweaty but it is a sensation that I really like. If I am ever brave enough to go to hot yoga, I have no idea what I would wear. When I practice yoga at home, either vinyasa or kundalini, I wear capri yoga pants and a sports bra which is also what I wear to do cardio at home. If dear husband and I go for a walk, I wear the same except I put on a t-shirt.

Even if I weighed 50lbs less, I am not sure that I could do just the sports bra in public.

I love Bikram, and sometimes I wear a (one-piece) bathing suit and shorts. I was tempted to take my top off and just wear my sports bra in a different class the other day, but it's kinda frowned upon at that particular studio.
I also have a huge hangup about exposing my stomach. It's fleshy and REALLY pale, and after years of living in Los Angeles, I'm just coming to terms with my crazy, whacked-out body image.

First of all I would like to say this is one of my favourite blogs and Im glad to have you back blogging!!! Secondly, I have been thinking about doing Yoga because my muscles are always so tight. So its good to see how things work out for you before I try it. My only problem is my stomach gets in the way.

Rereading this blog I am beginning to believe that Yoga really is like boot camp for body acceptance like you said.

Haha. Cute cartoon! I pretty much wear a tank top and shorts when I work out. If I am doing yoga, I'll wear workout pants.
