Why?

I am not dieting for one whole year. On March 1, 2008 my social experiment began. This blog chronicles my experiences of not dieting. More importantly, it provides support to those who seek more information on not dieting.

If you haven't already been to cartoonist Natalie Dee's website, then you are missing out on a lot of good times.

I was with a group of women last night and we were talking about health. So of course you know that inevitably led to a full blown discussion about weight loss. One woman mentioned how her mother in law had WLS and she was telling us how sick she was after the surgery. I mentioned to her that WLS is becoming increasingly dangerous and that people have died from complications with WLS. She then proceeded to try and convince me that the gastric bypass was absolutely necessary, if she didn't have the surgery she would have died, the fat would have killed her. I was really confused because she almost died anyway after having the surgery?! Couldn't she just have made changes to her diet and exercise and thus lowered her cholesterol (etc) without undergoing an incredibly dangerous potentially deadly surgery? Sorry for the rant. When I saw gastric bypass it made me think of this conversation.
