I'm so pumped that Whitney made it to the top 3! She is the only plus size model on the show, a size 10 compared to the other two girls who are a 0 and a 2. I think Tyra wants a plus size girl to win because she's gotten a lot of flak in the past from not letting a curvy model claim the prize. She talks a big game about size acceptance, but can she deliver? I hope so.
I noticed Whitney took Tyra's advice from last time, which was to not flaunt her boobs and ass. Tyra said modeling is not about overt sexuality (it isn't?) for bigger girls. She said plus size models need to tuck in their bums and curve in their chests to look less... overt. This episode, the judges said they wish Whitney showed off her body more in her recent photo shoot. They seemed puzzled that she wasn't drawing attention to her curves. Tyra didn't say anything, but the camera flashed to her and she looked secretly embarrassed.
Why is society so uncomfortable seeing provocative, sexy pictures of chubby women? If you flip through the pages of a fashion magazine you see tons of ads with skinny models posing in extremely sexually suggestive ways. This is not the case for plus size models. Usually, they are posed to look friendly and harmless.

Whitney is going to win. Too bad she seems like a total jerk.
Don't even get me started on Tyra...she contradicts herself all over the place. She hasn't got a clue of what body acceptance is really about. If she did, she wouldn't have started this show which is in my opinion only contributing to the need for young girls to be thinner. Anyway, I'm happy for Whitney and really hope she wins. It will be nice to see a girl with a little meat on her bones.
Oh and interesting point about how plus size models are told to hide their figures while the bony girls are supposed to be the sexy ones. The funny thing is, most men don't find bones sexy, they prefer a girl who has got some meat on her. So who exactly are they selling bony, sexy women to if most men don't even like it? It makes you wonder.
I don't know if you've ever noticed the reaction of straight men around the models, but when the girls were in the firehouse, the firemen were clearly drooling over Whitney. She has more sex appeal than any of the rest.
I have a pin-up girl calendar, and Whitney would be a little on the small side for these va-va-va-voom pictures.
I would love for Whitney to win, but it is tragic that size 10 is "plus size."
Well I'll probably be tuning in tonight to see how she does! I thought that was an interesting observation that 'plus size' models are more often posed in friendly, non-vixen poses while the smaller models have more blatantly sexual poses. Maybe it could be because larger women are perceived to be 'out of control' on a regular basis...you know...with voracious appetites for sex...? Then again...when I think of Anna Nicole Smith or Sophie Dahl, in their heyday, they were getting just as many 'sexy girl' photo shoots as any other model. hmm.

True. Plus size girls are often seen as scary and unfeminine, especially to some male photographers, both professional and amateur. This happens a lot in the modeling industry. In fact, plus size girls get hit on respectfully by guys than slimmer girls. Slimmer girls on the other hand, are more likely to get raped, harassed, abused, and even get taken advantage of because guys tend to be attracted to girls with slim bodies and they often see them as easy, cheap, dumb, and loose. Of course, girls who are slim are more likely to have flings than girls who are full-figured. In other words, I guess it's safer to be curvy and voluptuous than it is to be slim. If you're a slim girl, please be careful wherever you go.
Uhhmm, May 15th posting Anonymous, where exactly did you get your information? I'd like to see your statistics about the connection between body weight and harrassment/abuse. Also, actually it is often fat women who are unfortunately stereotyped as dumb, easy, and desperate; I can't say I've ever really heard that said generally about thin women. Then again, in our culture, we're all kind of damned if we do and damned if we don't...
